Working in a team of two, we were assigned a lesser-known city to create an identity to publicize the culture of the city. My partner, Rebecca Ussai, and I designed a t-shirt and coffee bag, along with a poster about our system for Freetown, Sierra Leone. When refugee slaves arrived in the late 1700’s they prayed under a giant Cotton Tree and founded the city around it. Besides the Cotton Tree, our pieces referenced other aspects of daily life, such as batik printing, the currency and architecture, and the harbor, on which the economy is based.
